Reality Revivals: The Post War Documentary

CINEMA COURSE8 Weeks Starting 24 JanDocumentary film is undergoing an exciting renaissance. From the rise of the television docu-soap to the revival of the cinematic essay, there is new interest in non-documentary filmmaking. This course will focus on other “new waves” in post-war documentary and the innovative work of filmmalers like Jean Rouch, Richard Leacock and D.A. Pennebaker. We will explore the rise of feminist documentary, examine the contribution of black and post-colonial filmmakers to an interrogation of the genre; and we will assess new kinds of television documentary.
