Open Day/ Mothers Who Make

Mums and babies! Come along to this morning session with your little ones and find out more about our Mothers Who Make group, then bring the whole family for workshops and live music. Please also bring along items for a clothes (child and adult) book and toy swap.

Mothers Who Make (MWM) is a peer support group and creative exchange session for mothers who are artists – professional and/or passionate – writers, painters, actors, dancers, filmmakers, photographers…every kind of maker welcome, and every kind of mother.

ORDER OF THE DAY

10.30 – 12.00 

Mothers Who Make networking session. This is a free session as always, but we ask that you book a place so we know you are coming. Tea and coffee will be available.

12.30 – 16.00 – Drop-in for the whole family

Workshops, clothes, toy and book swaps and live fun family music to enjoy!

THE WORKSHOPS

Stick, Stitch, Stamp with Nerissa Cargill Thompson

Explore colour, pattern & text to create your own mixed media artwork using recycled textiles, wallpaper and alphabet stamps. Try your hand at a bit of simple stitch using coloured wools and add embellishments like old buttons, washers and straws to make your piece pop.

‘First Words’ – a Typographic Print Workshop facilitated by Natasha Kurth.

This workshop invites you to recall a ‘first’ or ‘favourite’ word from your childhood or parenting journey and record it through a playful, hands-on printmaking process. Our printed words will hang to create a collection unique to those who create it, connecting us through language, memory and shared experience….you can take your print away with you!

 

Music by Jude Jagger

Jude Jagger is the Artistic Director of Submersion Productions – making theatrical immersive experiences, and the Co-Artistic Director of Things That Go On Things who make public art that travel around neighbourhoods and curate light festivals. Before making artworks, Jude was in various bands, including grunge band Fi-Lo Radio, stoner rock band To The Bones and 3 part harmony country band The Bobbysocks, and has recently written her first solo album. This performance for Mothers Who Make will be the first time she has performed new solo songs in public, with plans to release the album in 2024.

 

About the facilitator of Mothers Who Make:

Alice Robinson

Alice is a theatre maker, teacher and movement practitioner and mum to Arthur and Edith. She works at drama schools, co runs The Performers Playground and Les Femmes Ridicule Theatre company.

About Mothers Who Make:

Mothers who Make is a growing national network aimed at supporting mothers who are artists, working in any discipline and at any stage of their careers. It was started by Matilda Leyser in London in 2012 and has rapidly spread across the country, with groups currently having met in over ten different regions.
