From ‘El Hombre Lobo’ Waldemar Daninsky, the legendary character created by Spanish horror icon Paul Naschy, to the cinematic adaptations of the folk tales of Galicia, werewolves have played a vital part in Spain’s take on the horror genre. Inspired by the appearance of Lobos de Arga (Game of Werewolves) at this year’s ¡Viva!, this one hour intro will use a range of blood drenched clips, and maybe a little barking at the moon, to consider the contribution werewolf films have made to Spanish horror cinema, asking the question, why has the character of the wolf man proved so enduring within Iberian tales of terror?
This event will be led by Andy Willis, Reader in Film Studies at the University of Salford.
