Internationally praised as one of Asia’s leading filmmakers, this talk will provide a perfect introduction to the ATM retrospective of the work of Filipino director Brillante Mendoza. Using clips spanning his career the session, led by Andy Willis, Reader in Film Studies at The University of Salford and Asia Triennial Manchester 11 film curator, will explore the political themes and social concerns of the Cannes award-winning director. It will also consider how central the contribution of his highly distinctive visual style, achieved through a commitment to new forms of lightweight technology, is to the impact and power of his work.
