Celebrating ¡Viva! screenings of SLEEP DEALER and 3 DÍAS (and following the success of last year’s ¡Viva! features LA ANTENA and CRONOCRÍMENES) this illustrated talk will introduce the rare world of Spanish and Latin American science-fiction cinema. Providing an overview of the genre and an assorted mixture of clips, this talk will consider how an apparently typical Hollywood genre has been adopted and adapted, resulting in a peculiar hybrid of science-fiction cinema – a genre that is becoming increasingly popular with Spanish and Latin American filmmakers.
Led by Mariano Paz, Lecturer in Spanish at the University of Aberystwyth and PhD candidate at the University of Manchester. His research is focused on Latin American science-fiction cinema.
