One Hour Intro: New Romanian Cinema

Cristian Mungiu’s Palme D’Or winner 4, 3, 2 is considered the culmination of a wellspring of Romanian talent which has emerged on the international scene over recent years and included titles such as THE DEATH OF MR LAZARESCU and 12:08 EAST OF BUCHAREST.

This introduction will link this recent production back to the tradition of Romanian cinema during its traumatising ‘communist era’, and discuss the role of memory-work for a country still haunted by its past.
