For this informal introduction we bring together a number of experts to discuss the career of Margarethe von Trotta. A key but often overlooked contributor to the New German Cinema of the 1970s and 80s, she has gone on to become one of Europe’s most distinguished and critically acclaimed directors, often creating work that focuses on extraordinary women.
Panelists include: Erica Carter, Professor of German and Film at King’s College London; Cathy Gelbin, Professor of Film and German Studies, University of Manchester; Maggie Hoffgen MA, freelance film lecturer and programmer, Manchester. Chaired by Jackie Stacey, Professor of Media and Cultural Studies, University of Manchester.
This event is hosted in association with the German Screen Studies Network.
