Johnnie To is one of the most prolific directors working in Hong Kong today. His films cover a range of genres from the martial arts film to romantic comedy. However, he is probably best known in the west for his gangster films. Picking up the mantel left by John Woo’s move to Hollywood, To has made a number of striking contributions to the genre such as THE MISSION (1999), FULLTIME KILLER (2001) and ELECTION 1 and 2 (2005 and 2006). Designed to coincide with his latest release, EXILED, this one hour introduction will explore To’s work and place it into the context of the vibrant contemporary Hong Kong cinema.
