On the Big Screen: 20 – 26 May

Storylines

The Big Screen becomes a window on different worlds this week, as The Bigger Picture celebrates African Festival UK with a kaleidoscope of stunning, thought provoking and diverse perspectives of the continent. The combined vision of young filmmakers from Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and the UK creates a powerful challenge to the Africa normally seen on screen, and delivers it straight to the heart of Manchester. This unique programme was selected by Christine Ryan and Laura Francis from the groundbreaking British Council’s Storylines project which brought African and UK filmmakers together to film personal stories about the interconnectedness of cultures and identities, to promote intercultural dialogue, witness shared concerns and increase mutual understanding.
