Music & Film

From early innovations in genre filmmaking to historical archive footage and experimental documentary, we present an eclectic season of silent cinema accompanied by soundtracks from the city’s most innovative musical talent.

Combining the immediacy and energy of live performance with the magic of the big screen, Music and Film sees Manchester musicians creating original scores for early 20th century silent cinema, archive footage and artist film.

Music and Film will continue to draw titles from international film archives across the world – from critically acclaimed classics to rarely-seen work by lesser known filmmakers – and give musicians, including singer songwriter Josephine, Dutch Uncles songwriter and bassist Robin Richards and Mercury Award nominees GoGo Penguin, the opportunity to explore the relationship between live sound and image, with many of them scoring and arranging for film for the first time.

Music and Film is produced by HOME in collaboration with the Royal Northern College of Music and is supported by Film Hub North West Central, part of the BFI Film Audience Network (BFI FAN).
