A special one-off concert from Manchester Camerata in collaboration with the Keyboard Trust.
There are orchestras, and then there’s Manchester Camerata. Breaking convention and bringing their fresh approach to the classics into new and unusual spaces, Manchester Camerata truly is “Britain’s most adventurous orchestra” (The Times) – and now they’re heading to HOME.
We’re thrilled to be collaborating with them on a series of exclusive performances for 2017, starting with UpClose – The Next Generation.
Outstanding young Italian pianist Emanuel Rimoldi joins the orchestra on the stage of Theatre 1, for an explosive UpClose exploration of music and the mind. A moving, multi-sensory musical journey from darkness into light and hope, into the minds of Robert Schumann, Sergei Rachmaninov, Hugo Wolf and Jimi Hendrix, accompanied by readings that illustrate where the artist was mentally at the time.
Now more than ever it’s vital to celebrate the positive influence that music can have on our health and wellbeing. Schumann, Rachmaninov and Wolf are composers that personify that relationship between mental health and music, using their extraordinary abilities as both therapy and a means to personal redemption. The music also take a more contemporary direction with a phenomenal rendition of the Jimi Hendrix masterpiece Purple Haze. One of rock’s greatest icons, Hendrix was believed to have bipolar disorder.
Programme includes:
Schumann – Quintet in E flat major, Op.44
Rachmaninov – Trio Elegiaque No.1 in G minor
Wolf – Italian Serenade
Hendrix – Purple Haze
Emanuel Rimoldi – Piano
