Horizons 2024 will respond to our theme Our Planet, Our Home. Co-curated with our Arts & Migration Network of displaced local artists, Our Planet, Our Home is an expansion on the national theme for this year’s national Refugee Week: Our Home.
Horizons 2024 underlines the need for the planet to be a safe home for everyone. The world faces ever-increasing challenges because of climate change, and the climate emergency impacts the global south disproportionately. Global warming increases severe weather and natural disasters, sea levels rise, and rainfall patterns change, leading to food insecurity and disparity and increasing conflicts, forcing millions of people to leave their homes and seek sanctuary. It’s time to rethink our attitudes towards our neighbours and offer hospitality, not hostility.
Here’s what to expect for the weekend:
On Friday, Refugee Action and Asylum Matters will be spotlighting the Communities not Camps campaign, then we will hold a new theatre performance in Theatre 2 from a commissioned theatremaker.
On Saturday, families can enjoy music, movement, a commissioned banner, and a visual art exhibition created by children, young people and adults recently settled in the UK through CAN’s community programme.
On Sunday we wrap up with a series of films, including a newly commissioned short film.
CAN’s community programme commissioned artists, in association with Afrocats, Culture Bridge and Global Grooves, include Godfrey Pambalipe; Amang Mardokhy, Magdalen Bartlett, Masresha Wondu, and Kate Rothery.
