FRENCH INSET: French Regions on Film

Recommended for: teachers of GCSE, AS and A2 French

Capacity: 15 places

This INSET will propose different filmic approaches to studying The Regions of France. Examining the representation of rural France, urban landscapes, the banlieue and the city of Paris in a variety of recent French releases, the session will also explore the notion of stereotypes and the relationship between town and city. Case studies will include: Je vous trouve très beau (Isabelle Mergault, 2005), Être et avoir (Nicolas Philibert, 2002), La vie moderne (Raymond Depardon, 2008), La Haine (Mathieu Kassovitz, 1995), Angel-A (Luc Besson, 2005) and Amélie (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001).
