French A Level Study Day 2023: Revoir Paris

Join us for a day of informal learning, for French A Level students.

Tue 5 Dec – 10:00 – 15:00

Bring your students along to our French A Level study day where they can engage with French film, language and culture outside of the classroom.

This study day will be led by Isabelle Vanderschelden, Independent film scholar and Educator, Co-founder of Filta (Film in language teaching Association). The session aims to offer students the opportunity to see a recent film discussing an important event and associated social issues in France – in this case, the consequences of the Paris attacks of 2015 on the lives of French people. Isabelle Vanderschelden will introduce the film in French, providing relevant background information and vocabulary on the themes of the film and its production context, including the lead actors Virgine Efira and Benoit Magimel.

The screening will be followed by a range of language exercises in French around the main characters, personal and social issues raised by the film. The session will address genre and film style analysis especially the representation of Paris and the effects produced on the viewers. Students will also be encouraged to exercise their visual literacy and critical thinking skills in relation to the film’s topics.
