Join us for First Street’s first street party! A family-friendly day of music, food and theatre celebrating Manchester’s newest neighbourhood.
Throughout the day, HOME will be alive with storytelling, games, film, workshops and performances, including Eggs Collective Present Big, and Talking Birds’ The Whale – a gleaming silver whale-on-wheels that holds a witty, charming and child-friendly show inside, swallowing five at a time! There’ll also be the chance to meet the storybook characters inspired by Inkheart, our 2015 Christmas show, as they take you on a tour around our new venue.
Outside, Tony Wilson Place will be host to some of the city’s favourite street food vendors, giving you the chance to sample a range of delicious food and drink. The square will be decked out in contemporary street party style, with long communal tables, giant games of Chess and Jenga, roaming performers, and a bandstand featuring live music from Pantonic All Stars Steel Orchestra, Besses o’ th’ Barn Brass Band, Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, Calaita Flamenco Son and Dr Butler’s Hatstand Medicine Band throughout the day. There’ll even be space to spread out and enjoy a picnic, so feel free to bring your own!
You can also enjoy your very own rooftop garden, as our pop-up performance space on the top floor of the Q-Park car park is transformed, complete with fantastic views and an outdoor lounge, into a place to enjoy drinks from Mr Flavours’ Bar and Cocktails alongside some of Manchester’s finest DJs, including Mof Gimmers (FREEK’N), Howling Rhythm, Red Laser Disco and Thom Docking (Drunk At Vogue/Hotspace).
