About this week’s DJs:
David Dunne
David Dunne has been a constant figure in the ever-evolving dance music scene and culture since 1988. He has been described and applauded as “the DJ’s DJ” (Manchester Evening News), “A true pioneer and champion of house music” & “If there’s been a radio station and a pair of decks, he’s been there” (DJ Magazine), “A DJ with no ego and plenty to talk about”(The Big Issue), “A man with a gold star in rocking crowds” (Trust The DJ.com), “A Guaranteed crowd pleaser”(BBM Magazine) and “the most deserving DJ to cross over to the premier league” (Radio One). His Dj career spans 30 years behind the decks, promoting nights, remixing, producing and of course, breaking and supporting dance music on Radio.
Mikey D.O.N
If you don’t know about Mikey D.O.N, then frankly WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?? A real legend in the music scene, Mikey started his career at a very early age – after getting his first turntable in 1975!! Late 1986 saw Mikey, along with his same older brother and close family friend, start a rap group called KRISPY 3. The summer of 1989 saw the surface of their first piece of vinyl – a seven-inch (limited to fifty copies) press of ‘Comin’ Thru Clear’, whilst their first official release was in 1990 – a re-mixed twelve-inch version of ‘Comin Thru Clear’, backed with Mikey’s first solo release called ‘Natch It Up’. Krispy 3 were one of the first Hip Hop acts out of the UK to do BBC Radio 1 Sessions for ‘Sir’ John Peel (R.I.P.) and also Steve Lamacq & Jo Whiley. Krispy 3 also made history by being one of the first UK hip hop acts to get heavy rotation on Yo! MTV Raps – resulting in Mikey now being humbly known as a UK Hip Hop Pioneer.
People’s biggest mistake is that they try and pigeonhole Mikey as just a Reggae DJ – and they couldn’t be sooo mistaken if they tried. Mikey simply loves spinning great records to the masses, so whether he plays Reggae, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Boogie, Disco, Acid House, Rave, Jungle, D&B, Jazz, even Pop music – one thing is for sure – when rocking a club from behind the turntables, or simply just holding the mic, there’s no doubt Mikey D.O.N is THE force to be reckoned with!!
Will Tramp
An unquestionable pillar of the party in Manchester, Will Tramp’s name appears to pop up at every credible soiree of note in the city. Be it a Boiler Room stream, mucky car park rave or an all-day queer block party. It’s a testament to his skills as a DJ that is regarded as someone who will bring the party every time. As well as a long-time resident of nights like Homoelectric, The Warehouse Project and Bugged Out, he is equally at home in the world of promoting local grass root shindigs or supporting seminal artists, dj’s and icons such as Duran Duran, Grace Jones, The Rza, Chic, LCD Soundsystem or Kelis. Under the guise of Will Tramp!, his DJ sets touch on everything from Detroit Techno, Rare UKG dubs, Proto-House, Obscure disco edits, Outsider pop, 80’s Afro Boogie and Hip-Hop.
