To celebrate the UK premiere of Els Nens salvatges at ¡Viva! 2013 we are pleased to welcome writer and director Patricia Ferreira.
After studying Photography and Journalism at university in Madrid, Patricia Ferreira began her career as a film critic for TVE and renowned Spanish film magazine Fotogramas. She later worked in television as producer, director and writer, before being nominated for a Best New Director Goya with her feature film debut Sé quién eres in 1999. In 2002 she achieved further Goya nominations with the literary adaptation El Alquimista impaciente, followed by a short film as part of a collaborative documentary about the work of UNICEF in the developing world, En el mundo, a cada rato, in 2004. More Goya nominations followed with the release of Para que no me olvides in 2005, a film that saw one of the final performances of the great Spanish filmmaker Fernando Fernán Gómez. In 2006 she became a founding member of CIMA, the Association of Women Filmmakers in Audio-visual Media, and in 2010 released the documentary Señora de.
Els Nens salvatges won her Best Film and Best Screenplay at the Malaga Spanish Film Festival in 2012. We are delighted to welcome Ferreira to present her fifth film to feature in the ¡Viva! line-up since 2001.
