Course: Speculative Fiction, Serious Fun

Science Fiction has been a part of cinema’s feast of attractions since the very beginning. Mostly it has been the sensation of the unknown and the excitement of the action that has drawn in the crowds, but on occasions, since the release of 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY in 1968, ‘ideas’ have been as important as spectacle.In this evening course Roy Stafford will explore the concept of ‘hard SF’ and its cinematic representations.Screenings include:ALPHAVILLE, SOLARIS and THE MATRIX.Roy Stafford is the editor of In the Picture and a freelance Lecturer in Film Studies .
