The Commedia all’italiana combines the tragic and comic in a way only Italians know how. Poverty, misery, marriage, old age and death feature in these very dramatic, and sometimes tragic, comedies. Adalgisa Serio will introduce the comedies of directors such as Pietro Germi and Mario Monicelli in this examination of Italian cinema and culture.
