BFI Film Academy 3 (2014)

We recruited 16 talented young filmmakers to take part in Cornerhouse’s third BFI Film Academy in Autumn 2014. 84 young people applied for this opportunity so the selection process was pretty tough.

The Cornerhouse BFI Film Academy covers everything from practical filmmaking to film theory, programming, distribution and certification. It involves approximately 100 hours of training over 2 months and participants are guided through each stage by a team of industry professionals.

The project concluded in December 2014 with a screening of the fiction film the group made during the course. Their film, Perfect follows a man seeking a warped sense of perfection.

Quotes from the participants
“I have learnt an awful lot about the film industry and film itself; from the production to the distribution of it. My eyes have been opened to many different roles, both on and off set. I now know the effort and planning that goes into filmmaking and am now confident that I want to be part of this industry.”

“It has prepared me for university, as I have had to work with tight deadlines and with a large group of people. It’s helped me decide that I eventually want to be a freelance cinematographer.”

“This project has been so valuable and has opened many new doors to me. It has really benefited my current situation as an aspiring filmmaker. I could not recommend it more to every other aspiring filmmaker in the surrounding area, they will love it.”
