Asia Triennial Manchester/ Adventures in Super 8: the early films of Japan’s punk generation

As part of the 2018 Asia Triennial Manchester, we’re presenting a rare opportunity to experience some of the early, experimental works of directors, including Tsukamoto Shinya and Sono Sion, who would be at the forefront of a new wave a creativity that surged through Japanese cinema from the late 1980s onwards. In addition, we screen two landmark feature films that remind us of how these directors developed their ideas after these early creative outings.
