Art’s A Drag – Inventing New Futures

Join us for a free live art extravaganza of drag, magick and queerness exploring what our future could be.

Responding to our current exhibition, British Art Show 9 and the theme of ‘Inventing New Futures’, some of Manchester’s finest drag and performance artists have created responsive work for an exclusive showcase in our ground floor gallery.

Cheddar Gorgeous, House Of Spice and OOrya are creating brand new commissions responding to the themes of the show to be performed live and exclusive for one night only.

The British Art Show, curated by Irene Aristizábal and Hammad Nasar, is recognised as the most pertinent and ambitious recurring exhibition of contemporary art produced in the UK, bringing the work of some of the most exciting contemporary artists to four UK cities every five years.

British Art Show 9 has been developed at a precarious moment in Britain’s history that has brought politics, narratives of identity and questions of agency to the centre of public consciousness. The artists presented in the exhibition respond in critical ways to this complex context; imagining more hopeful futures and exploring new modes of resistance.
