This 8 week course sets recent developments in animation, including blockbuster films and successful TV comedy series, in the context of the medium’s history. Themes which link early animation to contemporary examples will be examined, including issues of gender, race, ideology and propaganda, postmodernism and parody and the tension between art and industry.
