Video: How Hard Times was made

Our documentary charts the Library Theatre Company’s progress in 2011 as they put on one of the most adventurous productions ever staged in their 59 year history. The first in a special series of events set outside conventional theatre spaces, Hard Times was produced in an original disused cotton mill and was put together by a team of over 120 people and partner organisations.

Watch the team as the production is put together and rehearsed and hear about the challenges of creating theatre for a modern day audience in a building that has been empty for decades! Featuring excerpts from the show as well as rehearsals and narration by the director, designer, actors, Community Company and more.

Alternatively you can view the film direct from vimeo as well as other documentaries by us here.

Hard Times is Charles Dickens’ novel of the industrial North West, a dramatic story of remarkable events in a 19th century mill town.

For Hard Times, the Library Theatre Company acknowledges the support of Arts Council England, the European Regional Development Fund, and Modern History.
