We recently supported Manchester Metropolitan University with a research project that looked into your thoughts on our recent production of Mother Courage and Her Children.
The next stage of the University’s project, entitled The Spirit of Theatre, will investigate feelings, stories and memories about all the work we’ve done as the Library Theatre Company. This part of the project extends the University’s inquiries to your experience of theatre more generally. To do this, Manchester Metropolitan have worked with artist Simon Woolham to create an imaginary theatre which you can visit here. Simon has constructed an imaginary ‘gameboard’ which allows you virtual access to all the working spaces in a theatre building. Click on the links on the plan or navigate the routes set out within the site and you can move from auditorium to stage door, from wings to the actor’s green room and so on. Each space in the theatre includes questions about your experiences of visiting our past productions. Post your comment in the space at the bottom of the page and it will appear in the room.
At the end of their project the University plan to put on an exhibition in the Quays Bar at The Lowry in which they’ll share their findings. Contributions to the site will form part of the university research project and may be anonymously reproduced in publications for educational purposes. The site is supported by Manchester Metropolitan University and the British Theatre Consortium and will be live for a limited period until the end of July 2013.
If you have any questions about the site or the project please contact the Spirit of Theatre team, Julie, Chris and Sophia here. Please do not contact the Library Theatre Company directly as The Spirit of Theatre is an independent project.
