Male singers needed for Manchester Lines

We’re creating a community choir for our next site-specific production Manchester Lines and are looking for male singers of all ages to perform in the show’s finale.

Manchester Lines is a new play from Jackie Kay, with music specially composed by singer-songwriter and celebrated composer Errollyn Wallen (Opera North, Orchestra of the Swan). The production will take over the entire 5th floor of Number One First Street and will run from Tue 12 June – Sat 7 July 2012.

We are looking for people who are:

  • aged 18 or over
  • of any singing ability – as long as you’re confident and love to sing
  • can commit to a certain number of performances during the production run

You don’t need previous experience – just enthusiasm!

If you’re interested in taking part there will be an audition on Wed 9 May at 19:00 at the Zion Arts Centre in Hulme. This will be very informal session and involve the Musical Director Dominic Harlan teaching the group Errollyn Wallen’s new composition. If you would like to attend please let us know by emailing josh@librarytheatre.com or calling Becky on 0161 200 1536

Successful applicants will then be expected to attend evening rehearsals in Manchester on:

  • Wed 16 May
  • Wed 23 May
  • Wed 30 May
  • And one further evening for a technical/dress rehearsal between Wed 6 – Sat 9 Jun.

Then commit to 2-3 shows per week during the period Sat 9 June – Sat 7 July (although singers are only required for the finale, so would only be needed of 30 minutes per performance, rather than the full duration).

There will also be a £3 contribution towards travel expenses per singer for each rehearsal and performance attended.
