Finding the newest Greater Manchester critics of 2018

Following on from the success of last year’s GM Critics Scheme this year’s search for a new group of critical voices launches today.

This year The Royal Exchange, Contact, HOME and The Lowry have come together to look for eight new critical voices from across Greater Manchester to join their free theatre criticism scheme. Professional journalist and theatre critic, Catherine Love, will be leading the project which runs for 10 weeks from the beginning of October. No previous experience is necessary, only a love of and interest in live performance.

Live art Live blogger Amanda said of her experience last year –
“I loved doing the course. It was an amazing opportunity and has given me so much in terms of confidence and a new zest for seeing even more theatre!”

Over ten weeks, participants will have the opportunity to see eight new pieces of theatre in the city while honing critical writing skills and learning from guest speakers. They will write about the productions they see, get feedback on their writing and learn how to set up a personal blog.

The application process is easy and both new and emerging writers are encouraged to apply.

” I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, particularly learning about different writing styles, how to express a critical voice, and being able to meet professional critics and learn from them.” – The Greater Manchester Reviewer, who now regularly covers performances across the region
