Dance Away the Spiders is a metaphor for the painful situations from which there seem to be no escape – a physical piece that explores trauma, and resistance. Unlike most refugee narratives, this is not a grime story, as it seeks a way out and liberation.
This project is a legacy of the drama lab facilitated by Sheba Arts at HOME in October 2018 as part of Journeys Festival International. The project Explore Your Drama engaged with eight asylum seeker women from Greater Manchester, including Ashton-under-Lyne, Bolton and Salford.
Dance Away the Spiders is a new piece of work commissioned by HOME especially for Push Festival 2019.
