Comedian, writer, and broadcaster Linda Smith was one of Britain’s best-loved stand-up performers. Her untimely death, in February 2006 from ovarian cancer, resulted in outpourings of grief from her many fans and friends.
Celebrating Linda Smith, co-ordinated by Warren Lakin, Linda’s partner of 23 years, pays tribute to the talents of a performer who was regarded as one of the wittiest people on the British comedy scene.
Adapted from Warren Lakin’s biography, Driving Miss Smith, and directed by two of Linda’s closest friends from her theatre days in Sheffield, Mike McCarthy and Kate Rutter, the show features audio and video clips from some of Linda’s many TV and radio appearances over the years.
There will also be guest appearances from various special guests who worked with Linda over the years, including musical contributions from Barb Jungr, singing a selection of songs from her recently released album, Do Right Woman – Hymn To Nina, her homage to Nina Simone.
Stop press: TV actresses Vanessa Hehir (Rosie Cartwright in Heartbeat) and Samantha Siddall (Mandy in Shameless) who each be reading one of Linda’s monologues.
