From Up On Poppy Hill

Directed by Goro Miyazaki

Set in 1964 just before the Tokyo Olympics, From Up on Poppy Hill is a coming-of-age tale about Umi, a teenager whose father died during wartime, and who looks after her family in their home on a hill above Yokohama. She raises flags each morning for the passing ships which attracts the attention of Shun, a boy from Umi’s school. One day she meets Shun and they band together to prevent their run-down school clubhouse being demolished to make way for a modern building. As the two become closer, they uncover a hidden past between their families.

This is a beautiful, mature, charming and moving tale from the acclaimed Studio Ghibli.
