The Stuart Hall Project plus post-screening Q&A

We are pleased to welcome John Akomfrah and Lina Gopaul for a post-screening Q&A to accompany the screening of The Stuart Hall Project on Thu 5 December at 18:10.

John Akomfrah, OBE is an acclaimed film director and screenwriter. Making his debut with Handsworth Songs in 1986, he has since directed 14 films. Akomfrah is a founding member of the Black Audio Film Collective and in 1998, together with Lina Gopaul and David Lawson, he co-founded Smoking Dogs Films. In 2013 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from University of the Arts London.

Lina Gopaul is a founding member of the Black Audio Film Collective. She has produced a number of award-winning feature and documentary films through Smoking Dogs Films, established in 1998 with John Akomfrah and David Lawson. Her first film Handsworth Songs (1986) won the British Film Institute Grierson Award for Best Documentary. Gopaul is widely considered a pioneer for Black British film within mainstream TV and cinema.
