Multi Sensory Walks

The LRM (Loiterers Resistance Movement) invites you to participate to three special walks. Each event will include a short introduction to a different aspect of psychogeography and then you will be off for a wander, transforming the streets into a gallery and a playground, with the hope to discover new sides to our city. After the walk you will share stories, get creative and try to tackle the dilemma of how to document the ephemeral and multi- sensory. Expect a few surprises along the way….

After the final walk watch out for the production of artefacts commemorating our discoveries and suggesting ideas for future adventures. So choose your sense and book your free place online!

  • The Sensual City
    Sun 20 May, 14:00 – 17:00

You will be taken on a guided tour which utilises all your senses and explores Manchester through touching, tasting, looking, listening and feeling.

  • The All Seeing City
    Sat 26 May, 14:00 – 17:00

This walk examines the architecture of fear in the city and how we can banish it. It will include a game of CCTV bingo and a chance to explore what scares us and why.

  • The Heart of The City
    Sat 16 Jun, , 14:00 – 17:00

Explorers will search for the heart of the city and produce a collaborative map of their findings.

The small but important print:

The walks will take place in and around Manchester city centre and so participants are politely reminded to be mindful of their environment and take care, especially when crossing roads.

Please dress appropriately (however you define that) for the weather as its boring to complain about the climate. We won’t be exposing you to any exceptional risks but please do stay alert; the city’s stories are swirling all around us and we don’t want to cause any trouble.

Please note the LRM will be recording these walks using a variety of methods; part of their micro-commission project is to produce documentary evidence of our work – they aren’t quite sure what form this loiterers guide will take yet but very much hope everyone who joins us will contribute. Signing up for the event is taken as consent that you are happy to be recorded. Any quotes, pictures etc will only be used in relation to these walks (eg for journal articles, essays etc) and will not be taken out of context or used for anything else. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time and / or remain anonymous if you wish. If you contribute any photos, notes, drawings etc that we use full credit will be given to you (unless you wish to be anonymous) and the copyright remains yours.
