InterpPlay: BSL Interpretation in Theatre

Aimed at qualified and registered trainee BSL/English interpreters, InterpPlay is a unique and innovative series of workshops in sign language interpreting for theatre, developed and presented by Siobhán Rocks and Alex McDonald.

InterpPlay workshops apply audiovisual translation-based approaches to the art and practice of sign language interpreting for theatre, and introduce fundamental new strategies for working in this complex and highly specialised setting.

The programme brings together sign language interpreters and theatre professionals to share specialist knowledge, and to explore the interplay between the performance, the interpreter, and the audience.

This one-day workshop will introduce theatre as an audiovisual text, and explore the challenges that that presents for an interpreter working into a visual language.
