Last weekend the BBC 6 Music Festival rolled into town, and as part of the fringe, Nadine Shah performed deep within the belly of the HOME building site to an audience of high-vis, hard hat clad builders.
Introduced by the legendary Mary Anne Hobbs, Shah played the haunting Winter Reigns from her debut album Love Your Mum and Dad. Stood at the keyboard in wellies and a hard hat it wasn’t your typical Nadine Shah gig, and it’s fair to say not her usual audience either. The builders, who had downed tools for the performance, went back to work as the newest members of The Nadine Shah Fan Club and the first ever performance on HOME soil was a surreal triumph.
We caught up with Nadine Shah with Mary Annne Hobbs afterwards and got their thoughts on the day, the festival and HOME itself…
