Event/ This screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Luka Yuanyuan Yang.

At the remarkable age of 92, Coby Yee, a former starlet and owner of the illustrious Forbidden City Nightclub, reclaims her place in the spotlight for one last tour with the senior dance troupe, Grant Avenue Follies.

Led by Cynthia Yee – another veteran cabaret performer – the ensemble brings to life the luminous nightclub era of San Francisco’s Chinatown, whilst simultaneously shattering the conventional image of aging Asian women.

Luka Yuanyuan Yang’s documentary is at-once an intimate portrait of remarkable women, a fascinating exploration of the Chinese diaspora experience and a vital snapshot of a unique moment in modern US history.

On Sun 27 Jul, Luka Yuanyuan Yang presents Echoes of Elsewhere – an afternoon of short film and discussion – at esea contemporary. Book your tickets now.
