It is time to reflect, celebrate and act. This year sees the 80th Anniversary of the Fifth Pan-African Congress in Manchester. Join Keisha Thompson, from the Scott Trust’s Legacies of Enslavement team, for a day of activities celebrating this exciting part of Black Manchester history.
The day will be jam-packed with round-table talks, workshops, music and more. In response to HOME’s commitment to spotlight black women for this year’s Black History Month, the day will be centred on the voices and efforts of local, national and international female icons. We will draw threads from historical figures such as Kath Locke and Amy Ashwood Garvey who were present at the congress in 1945 up to our modern-day heroes holding the baton today.
This will be a citizen’s assembly with a spin and a bassline. It is time to look at the history we have inherited and act on it. All are welcome. Axé.
