What happens when you grow up with heroes that look nothing like you? What happens when you find some that do? Join Houmi on her odyssey to find new heroes in this surreal, witty one woman show that celebrates centuries of iconic, badass, Japanese women.

Houmi’s always unquestioningly adored her childhood heroes - from Marilyn to Mel B. But the penny drops: none of them look like her. Thus begins the quest of all quests, where we meet an 11th Century samurai, two powerhouse suffragettes and a legendary queen. And it’s totally autobiographical. Well... Sort of.

In The Beginning Woman Was The Sun is Houmi Miura’s debut one-woman show, supported by HOME, Unity, Arts Council England, New Earth Theatre and Horizons Collective.
