Charlie Newton, a bored teenager living in the sleepy town of Santa Rosa, gets a much-needed dose of excitement when her favourite uncle - and namesake - pays the family a sudden visit.

But the deep bond between the pair begins to unravel due to Uncle Charlie’s unusual behaviour and Young Charlie’s nagging suspicions that he may just be a notorious serial killer dubbed the Merry Widow Murderer.

Family dysfunction and the dangerous games played between doubles and doppelgängers are mainstay themes in Hitchcock’s oeuvre. Both are brilliantly on display in Shadow of a Doubt – one of the filmmaker’s finest thrillers and a favourite of Hitchcock himself.
