A bold and original double-bill dance performance from Manchester’s award-winning Company Chameleon, Obscura explores both the light and darkness that can be found in the hidden corners of self and society.
See two powerful dance performances back-to-back
Umbra
Latin for shadow, Umbra explores the idea of those aspects of ourselves that we do not wish to share with others (or even ourselves) and spotlights the aspects of exclusion, the search for understanding and the desire to be understood.
Refuse
Refuse explores ideas relating to migration, asylum and displacement. It follows five performers on a perilous journey in search of refuge. Inspired by Géricault’s iconic painting The Raft of the Medusa, this visceral work exposes the harsh realities faced by asylum seekers and displaced people today.
Presented together in Obscura, both performances showcase Chameleon’s gift for creating socially relevant, thought-provoking and visually captivating dance performance. This is dance that will move you, stir you and leave you reflecting after the final step.
