Spend a day with the Emma Rice Company and discover how their bold, ensemble‑led theatre is made - on stage and behind the scenes.

These two free taster workshops run alongside the company’s production of Malory Towers and offer early‑career theatre makers and technicians aged 18+ a hands‑on introduction to working with an internationally acclaimed touring company.

Emma Rice Company’s Theatre Maker Taster

Emma Rice Company’s Training Programme offers a unique opportunity for theatre makers aged 18+ to take part in a free, day‑long  Theatre Maker Taster.

In this practical and playful workshop, members of the Malory Towers  show team will introduce participants to the Emma Rice Company method. You will take part in games, learn songs and devise work together, experiencing first‑hand how the company builds an ensemble and creates its critically acclaimed productions.

Actors, singers, musicians, dancers, directors, acrobats, clowns and theatre makers are all encouraged to apply. You don’t need extensive experience, but you do need to be a confident performer who is keen to explore collaborative theatre‑making.

We encourage participants to attend Malory Towers either before or after the Theatre Maker Taster to get the most out of the day.

When booking the workshop, participants will receive a voucher code offering reduced‑price tickets for the Monday and Tuesday evening performances of Malory Towers.

Emma Rice Company’s Technical Taster Workshop

Get a real behind‑the‑scenes insight into what it’s like to work backstage on an Emma Rice Company production. This Technical Taster offers the chance to hear directly from the company’s award‑winning technical team and gain an understanding of the skills, collaboration and teamwork involved in bringing a show to life.

Whether you’re curious about show calling, mixing sound, setting props or touring, this workshop is a great way to explore the wide range of roles that make up a theatre production.

We’re looking for people at the start of their career. You don’t need experience in mixing or show calling, but you do need some experience backstage. Participants must be over 18 and will have undertaken some training or work backstage, including youth, community or amateur productions, and be looking to take their next step into the theatre industry.

We’re keen to hear from emerging Stage Managers, Wardrobe, Sound, Lighting and AV Technicians with an interest in touring. The workshop is also suitable for those with experience in film, TV or music production who are interested in expanding their skillset.
