What is creativity for you? And what can you get from it?

Creativity Can… is a collaborative exhibition by The Horsfall at 42nd Street and artist Chloe Watts, celebrating the power of creative expression as a tool for wellbeing, connection and personal transformation.

The Horsfall Creative Space and Gallery is part of 42nd Street; a Mental Health Charity for young people aged between 11-25. Over the past 10 years the Horsfall has explored the transformational impact of art and creativity on mental health; for the young people and artists involved in the creative process and the audience participating in the resulting art.

The Horsfall have established a culture of saying “yes” to young people and their creative ideas, offering choice and agency where other mental health services may struggle. We support the inclusive power of community spaces where young people can feel seen, listened to, find ways to process their experiences, and express themselves through various art and cultural approaches.

Our aim is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to access a creative life through supportive spaces which can open up personalised, creative possibilities for whatever they need to gain from the process.

We commissioned this series of posters from one of our wonderful artists, Chloe Watts, to highlight the various ‘active ingredients’ within the creative act that supports mental health.

This exhibition is located in our Inspire Gallery on the ground floor.

Free to drop in, no booking required.

Chloe Watts says:

“For me, creativity is not separate from living. It is a way of thinking, processing, and staying present. It offers a language for experiences that don’t always fit neatly into words, and a structure through which ideas can be explored collectively.

The nine posters presented here draw on conversations with young people about what creativity means to them. Rather than defining creativity, this work creates space for multiple definitions to exist side by side - recognising creativity as expansive, personal and shaped by those who practice it every day.”
