Fusing music, fashion and dance, BLOOM is a brand new performance that debuted at EXPO Osaka in June 2025, ahead of performances in Greater Manchester during Japan Week in September 2025.
Informed by the past but inspired by the future, creative producers From The Other have brought together composer AFRODEUTSCHE, dance collective Company Chameleon, queer-led fashion brand Belladonis, and a trio from the world-renowned Hallé for this special performance.
In the spirit of this cultural exchange, the afternoon will also see a dance performance by OSK Nippon Revue Company, a rare all-female opera troupe founded in Osaka that will celebrate its 103rd anniversary in 2025.
Their performers take on distinct roles, “otokoyaku” (playing male roles) and “musumeyaku” (playing female roles) and skillfully combine these elements to present a unique aesthetic style characteristic of this opera form. Their performances, featuring a versatile blend of music from around the world, create a captivating stage that transcends language barriers. As non-verbal entertainment that anyone can enjoy and relate to, this troupe leads the cultural promotion of Osaka.
The performances will be introduced by Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester and Hideyuki Yokoyama, Mayor of Osaka City.
The showcase will then be followed by the opening of Japan Week 2025 on First Street outside HOME.
Join us in this landmark year of cultural exchange between Osaka and Greater Manchester as we celebrate Japan Week in Manchester and the ever closer economic and cultural ties that bind our two places.
BLOOM is sponsored by Panasonic, Daikin, ENWL and Deloitte, who we thank for their ongoing support.
