Diaspora Rendered weaves together experimental moving image, documentary and animation works exploring identity and place through a collection of distinct voices and points of view. Watch the short films at HOME with an introduction by members of FAFSWAG.

With a critical view of the colonial gaze and the different ways it has shaped the representation of Moana ocean people, this series of short films reclaims stolen ancestral narratives and transforms cultural symbols and Pacific motifs into a digital archive of memory and imagination.

Diaspora Rendered expands on the ceremonial stories of the FALE SĀ / SACRED HOUSE reaching far into the past to excavate reflections on contemporary life for Queer Indigenous people from the Moana. The films share deep meditations on Indigenous concepts of masculinity, motherhood, gender identity, nationality, class and cultural heritage – rendering contemporary life through pixels, sound design and the time-honoured cultural tradition of shared collective storytelling.

Created by members of the FAFSWAG arts collective, these short films reflect on the past, engage with the present, and dream of a future for Queer Indigenous bodies living on stolen land, displaced from their ancestral homes. Diaspora Rendered aims to resonate with diverse audiences and spark meaningful conversations about identity, resilience and the ongoing process of decolonisation.
