Join us for a captivating series of short films from experimental documentary to archive film exploring migration, belonging, and community through the eyes of talented filmmakers.

The screening includes HOME’s newly commissioned documentary by Mohammad Ali Sheida, featuring personal stories from international artists who have found a home and creative voice in Manchester.

This documentary film was commissioned for the 2025 Horizons Festival Programme by HOME and Community Arts North West as part of a series of artist commissions created to support Manchester-based artists with lived experience of displacement to make new work. These opportunities are supported by HOME’s Creative Engagement Practitioners.

We will also be screening a series of short films created by filmmakers and artists that compliment the themes of the documentary. These include the creative capturing of a dance performance by Instant Dissidence, Dancing with Strangers: From Palestine to Ireland by Gavin FitzGerald, as well as historical snapshots into the lives of various communities with a selection of films from the North West Film Archive and many more innovative shorts from both local and international emerging filmmaking talent.

The short film screening will be followed by a Q&A with Mohammad Ali Sheida and participants featured in his documentary.
