After a chance meeting on a train, two strangers find themselves locked in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
Guy, an aspiring tennis star, wishes to divorce his unfaithful wife; while Bruno, a wealthy but deeply disturbed socialite, wants rid of his hated father.

Bruno casually suggests that the pair commit murder for one another – and, having no motive for their respective crimes, get away with everything. Assuming it’s a joke, Guy awkwardly agrees, but it soon becomes apparent that Bruno has a decidedly sick sense of humour.

In Hitchcock’s cinema of taboo and transgression, the notion of the “perfect murder” is explored in several films that tiptoe the fine line between provocation and profanity.

Farley Granger delivers memorable performances in two titles from this body of work – Rope and Strangers on a Train – with the openly bisexual actor bringing pathos and vulnerability to a pair of murderous relationships that simmer with homoerotic tension.
