The arrival of Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague on HOME’s cinema screens in January 2026 marks the return of one of film’s most exciting, rebellious and creative movements: the French New Wave.
As Linklater pens his playful love letter to cinema and reimagines the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s era-defining film, Breathless, HOME presents an essential selection of Nouvelle Vague classics that capture the irresistible spirit of French cinema in the 1960s.
Breathless itself features, of course, and is joined by films from Godard’s collaborators and contemporaries - including Eric Rohmer, François Truffaut and Agnes Varda - whose collective works brought about one of the most important moments in the history of world cinema. One left-field selection, William Klein’s relentlessly caustic, painfully cool fashion world satire Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? shows that the Nouvelle Vague was not the only cinematic revolution to emerge from Paris in the 1960s.
Audiences looking to immerse themselves even further in the heady days of the Nouvelle Vague can sign up for our French New Wave evening course which runs from Wed 14 Jan – Wed 18 Mar.
