The Rise and Fall of a Northern Star

re:play Festival 2014

From acclaimed M.E.N nominated writer and performer Stella Grundy, comes this one woman performance piece about the life and music of the infamous Madchester icon Tracy Star.

Tracy Star was born into the depressing landscape of 1980’s Manchester, hoping to escape the mediocrity of her life. A huge Bowie fan she sought to make something of herself in the burgeoning Manchester music scene of the late eighties. She formed the band Northern Star who went onto release singles like Now and Then and Heavyweight before breaking free under industry pressure and recording as a solo artist known simply as Star. She would become a forgotten part of what was a pivotal time in Manchester music before drink, drug use and the music industry would take its heavy toll.

Stella Grundy received two Manchester Theatre Awards nominations for her last show Nicoicon and great acclaim for her performances. The Rise and Fall of a Northern Star is a mix of live music and original storytelling, a spellbinding and intimate experience.
