The year is 1613. John Hall, a doctor in Stratford upon Avon takes on a boisterous young man called Jack Lane as an apprentice, but then sacks him for misconduct. Lane takes revenge by claiming that the doctor’s wife, Susanna, has had a sexual liaison with Rafe Smith, a married neighbour and family friend. Susannah’s father is, of course, the playwright, William Shakespeare!
Peter Whelan’s sexy, unpredictable and funny play is based on actual events in Stratford.
