Stars in The Morning Sky and Brothers and Sisters

City of drama Presents Maly Theatre Company of St Peterburg in

St Peterburg’s Maly Dramatic Theatre, one of the world’s outstanding theatre ensembles, visits Manchester for the first time ever. City of Drama this Spring plays host to two of the Maly’s most incisive and adventurous productions Stars in The Morning Sky and Brothers and Sisters. Set during the lead up to the 1980 Moscow Olympics, Stars in The Morning Sky links the fortunes of a group of prostitutes with those of the motherland.
Brothers and Sisters (part 1 and 2), boasting a 40 strong cast, is based on Abramov’s beautiful and touching novels of Russia’s peasant communities and their struggles under Soviet rule.
Under the influence of its inspired Artistic Director, Lev Dodin, The Maly has achieved vast critical acclaim around the world with a stunning canon of theatre performance. Intense and memorable theatre, which stays in the minds of its audience long after the performance, is the undeniable trademark of this unique company.
Brothers and Sisters is in two separate but linked parts. The marathon performance of both parts on Sunday 24th April is a rare theatrical treat.
