Schweyk in the Second World War

a Library Theatre Company 50th Birthday Production

It’s Prague in 1942 and the city is under  Nazi occupation. Schweyk, dog dealer and apparent simpleton is in the tavern with his eternally hungry friend, Baloun and the trenchant landlady Anna Kopecka trying to keep out of mischief and survive. His comic adventures send him dog-stealing for the Gestapo through conscription to the Russian front and an epic meeting with Herr  Hitler himself.  Brecht’s guide on how to survive oppression and tyranny is a masterpiece of ironic comedy with some great songs.
